Week 10- Studio Monitoring

In this studio monitoring session, there was advanced audio 2 students working on their mixing session. It was like mariachi/tejano music. I cleaned the studio up a bit, cause of the Genelec presentation the next day, and i just basically wrapped cables.

Week 10- Lab Entry #14

So on Saturday, I had gone to Nels place to drill the holes through the enclosures. It was super hot outside, and I was sweating as if I had gone for a 5 mile run. The hardest part in drilling was drilling holes for the DC jack, Stereo jacks, and the Stomp switch, cause the thickest drill bit he had, was not thick enough holes so certain jacks could fit. I had to just keep drilling in circles around the hole, until they got big enough for the jacks to fit. The easiest part was the LEDs. Yesterday, I went over to Jared’s place to test out my pedals, and for some reason Channel B on the A/B Switcher, and the True-Bypass pedal didn’t work. I checked for bad solder points, and i had two, so fixed them. I tested both of them, and still the same issue. I realized that the stereo jack leads were touching the enclosure, which is a bad thing, cause then there is conductivity to through the enclosure, which is acting as chassis ground. So I fix that issue on both pedals, tested them out, and they finally worked. After seeing those LEDs light up and hearing sound from the amp, I was proud at myself and my projects. I have learned a lot on how to wire, true-bypassing in different pedals and what the electronic components do to Distortion pedals.

They are finished!:

Week 9- Lab Entry #13

I got the stereo jack and started soldering for the True-Bypass pedal. I finished it and I feel good, cause it was not too hard, yet it was time consuming and it turned out the way I wanted it too. I think the hardest part was soldering the resistor to the LED, and actually figuring out the layout of the pedal. All I have to do for next week, is drill some holes through the enclosures, and place the wiring inside it.

This is a pic of the A/B Switcher finished soldered to the new switch:

Week 8- Lab Entry #12

My 3PDT switches came in on Thursday! I have started snipping off all the leads, from the A/B Switcher, off the toggle switch. During that process I remembered, in class, Randy had mentioned going down to Altex to buy enclosures, so I finished that and then I decided to head down to Altex to buy them. I bought them and came back to finish up soldering my A/B switcher wires to the new switch. It was a hell of a lot easier soldering to the stompswitch, because the holes were way bigger, and I was able to fit two to three wires easily through them. Next week I’m going to start soldering my True-Bypass Switch cause I realized I forgot to buy another stereo jack. So far I’ve been pretty happy with my projects.

This is my enclosure:

Week 8- Studio Monitoring

This session was freaking sweet. I walked in and Advanced Audio 1 Class was recording their session. It was like this huge big band with like a brass and woodwind sections, and a drummer, bass player, and guitar player. They were like professionals, cause they had scored music. They had 28 Channels, 28 Mics. So basically i just sat through their session, and the music was pretty chill. I helped them wrap up cables and put away mics.

Week 7- Lab Entry #11

I talked to my buddy this week, and he says he STILL hasn’t order the parts, so I decided i was going to order the switches I need. Oh and I’m buying 3PDT (Triple Pole Double Throw) Switches. So I was googling it, and came across this Ebay seller who sells these switches in packs of 5 for $20, and I was like wow thats really good, cause for one of the 3PDT switches on other websites is like $15 not including shipping. So I wanted to see how much the total cost would be at checkout, and I forgot I was still signed in, and I ended up buy it, in accident. Haha But i was planning to anyways. I also went down to Fryes and bought the other materials I needed for the True-Bypass Pedal. I can’t do much anymore, until I get those switches. Till next time.

Week 7- Studio Monitoring

I was studio monitoring while some of my buddies from recording 1, were doing their recording session. They miked up the drums and guitar. I helped them out with little things, such as routing the click track to the avioms, and other minor details on the Protools session. I helped them wrap cables and clean up the studio afterwards.

Week 6- Lab Entry #10

So I had finished my A/B Switcher, and I had talked to my Buddy back a couple of days ago, and he suggested for me to switch out the toggle switch for a stompswitch. I told him I don’t have much money to be spending on it, and I still needed to buy the materials I needed for the True Bypass Pedal. He told me he was going to buy it online, and ship it to my address, so I was like ok sounds good. So I spilled milk on my laptop two days ago, and I’ve been mad at myself since then, and now I can’t do any of my projects at home anymore. So I decided that my BOSS DS-1 pedal, is finished being modified, and I think it sounds great going straight into Protools as well as my friends amp.

Week 6- Studio Monitoring

Studio was clean and tidy, with cables wrapped up correctly, so I just sat in Marquis mixing session for his advance recording class. I would give him my opinions on what the mix sounded like to me, and what I think he could change, and he was very cool about it.
